Common questions

How large is the grant?

You can receive up to 50% of the eligible costs as a grant. That is up to €7,500 under Digitalbonus Standard and up to €30,000 under Digitalbonus Plus for highly innovative projects.

The responsible regional government decides which costs are recognised and whether your project receives funding.

How does New Digitals help with the application?

If you plan to have us carry out the project, we help you prepare the application documents free of charge. You submit the application yourself.

When you later apply for the grant payment, we also help you provide the required information about the work we carried out.

Who submits the application, and what do I need?

You submit the application yourself through your company’s ELSTER business account. Under the funding conditions, we cannot submit it for you.

If you do not have a business account yet, allow up to three weeks for registration, to be on the safe side. Some of the login details arrive by post. Registering with ELSTER (in German)

When can I apply?

You can apply as long as the current month’s quota of applications has not been reached. Once it has, you need to wait for the next application round.

A new quota is released on the first Bavarian working day of each month, at 10am Berlin time. The next date is Monday, 2 November 2026.

How long will Digitalbonus Bayern be available?

The funding programme runs until 31 December 2027. Until then, you can apply as long as the current month’s quota has not been reached.

When can I place an order for the project?

Only after you have received an acknowledgement of receipt for your funding application. Before then, you can request quotes and plan the project, but you must not place any orders, including verbal orders. Doing so would make the project ineligible for funding.

An acknowledgement of receipt does not mean your funding has been approved. You can sign a contract with us after receiving it, but you do so at your own risk. To be sure that funding has been approved before placing an order, wait until you receive your grant approval notice (Förderbescheid). It approves the funding subject to the conditions it sets out. The grant is only paid once the project is complete and your payment application has been reviewed.

How long does it take to receive a decision?

No fixed processing time is specified. The responsible regional government processes applications in the order they are received. Allow enough time if you want to wait for a decision before placing an order.

When and how is the grant paid out?

Once you have received your grant approval notice, completed the project and paid all invoices, you can apply online for the grant payment. The responsible regional government pays the grant after reviewing your payment application.

Usually, a project completion notification (Projektmitteilung) is sufficient. If your approved grant exceeds €10,000 or your project is selected for a random check, you must also submit a statement documenting how the project funds were used (Verwendungsnachweis).

You submit the payment application yourself. We help you provide the required information about the work we carried out.

What happens if the application is rejected?

If your application is rejected, you will receive no grant. If you have already engaged us to carry out the project, you will be responsible for the full agreed cost.

If you only want to go ahead once the grant is certain, wait until you receive your grant approval notice before engaging us.

What does Digitalbonus Bayern not fund?

Standard websites and standard online shops, common office software, operating systems and ordinary hardware such as PCs, laptops or servers are not funded. Measures required by law are also excluded.

Business software for inventory management, customer management or document management, on the other hand, can be eligible.

Are software licences and running costs funded?

Yes, if they are part of the funded project. Licence costs and system service fees may be eligible for funding for up to 18 months. These costs must be incurred within the funding period specified in your grant approval notice.

The responsible regional government decides which costs are eligible in your case.

Does an AI project automatically qualify for Digitalbonus Plus?

No. Your project must demonstrate a high level of innovation. Using artificial intelligence alone is not enough.

Before applying, check with the responsible regional government whether your project qualifies for Digitalbonus Plus.

Can members of the liberal professions (Freiberufler) apply for Digitalbonus Bayern?

Members of the liberal professions (freie Berufe) are generally excluded from funding. An exception may apply if you practise your profession in a commercial legal form and are therefore subject to German trade tax (Gewerbesteuer).

Some sectors are excluded regardless of the business’s legal form. Check with the responsible regional government whether your business is eligible to apply.
